Hope I can believe in..
I must admit, the “hope and change” I was promised almost 4 years ago today didn’t end up being exactly the “hope and change” I had expected. I guess reading more than the tag line would have been useful.
Last week, President Obama was overheard saying “the private sector is doing fine”. While we now all know he is out of touch with reality, has no plan nor clue how to stop hurting the economy, small businesses, entrepreneurs, students, women, basically the 99% of us, I have a new HOPE that we are going to be O.K.
I’ll tell you why. I believe we can still overcome these past few years if we all check our premises and think about what this country has stood for more than 200 years. Freedom of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. While our schools may not all be teaching it, and our government and media may be ignoring it, we are still a free society of free minds with personal determination to succeed. There are still parents in this country that are teaching their children about personal & fiscal responsibility as well as how dedicated work and intelligent planning will lead you to a life of freedom in which you may pursue happiness.
There is a pre-teen boy in my neighborhood, Jefferson County, who runs a vegetable and egg stand in his front driveway during the summer months. He grows his own vegetables and cares for many chickens that lay beautiful colored eggs in order to do so. His mother has been present each time my husband and I drive by. I literally got tears in my eyes when the boy asked for his mothers assistance on pricing and change, and she walked him through the math rather than telling him the quick answer. He is learning to balance a budget, save money for the future, calculate quick math, speak kindly to his elders, treat animals well and he is witnessing first hand the personal benefits of making a profit on his own hard work.
I am just so very proud of him and of his family for taking the time to teach him these invaluable lessons. There is true entrepreneurism at work right down the street from me. If it is happening here, it can happen anywhere. Keep the faith and hope my friends, there will always be Americans that appreciate an opportunity to try their best to succeed, and to have the comfort that they will be able to keep the fruits of their labor rather than an entire country just looking for a handout. Let’s keep encouraging our children! Don’t let anyone tell them they aren’t good enough or smart enough to be free. They are our children. They come from good genes!
