Clever young students in classThis week, the Colorado Women’s Alliance, headed by Executive Director Debbie Brown, announced their support in the Jefferson County school board election to be decided on Tuesday, November 5, 2013.

x JOHN NEWKIRK

x KEN WITT

“Colorado Women’s Alliance endorses school board candidates Julie Williams, John Newkirk and Ken Witt for Jefferson County’s school board election because their focus is on getting resources back into the classroom and not stuck in the administration building,” said Brown.

“Women in Jefferson County have heard the campaign promises before. Candidates promise to be focused on what is best for the kids, but their commitment changes when they get into office.  We want candidates who will stop the wasteful spending that has become so common in public school education. We want the school board to focus on supporting teachers in the classroom. And we want full and fair funding for all public schools.”

All three candidates support:

  • Choice in Education – to allow more capacity and concurrent enrollment
  • Proper tracking and assessment – by parents versus the InBloom tracking system from back East
  • And do NOT support Amendment 66, the massive tax hike with no sunset and little accountability

Newkirk and Williams are JeffCo graduates as well as parents to kids in the JeffCo schools. Witt is a JeffCo parent as well.

“There is a clear distinction between the six candidates running for school board in Jefferson County based on our own candidate surveys and research,” Brown explained. “We finally have three candidates who will stand up for the kids, stop wasteful spending and support great teachers, and that’s Williams, Newkirk and Witt.”
